Well she’s off to start her college life. We moved Ashley in Wednesday and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought. Now on the other hand, it’s gotten worse as the days have gone by, but I think I’m managing quite well. Plus, I know she’ll do fine!!
Ash chose to go to A & M Commerce (Lions)which is a sister school of
A & M (Aggies). She chose Commerce so that she can pursue a teaching degree. She’s always wanted to become a teacher. Plus being great with children her whole life has helped! Commerce is only two hours away from us so she’s on her own without being WAY OFF on her own. That puts my heart at ease!
I guess I could go on an on about this whole experience but I won’t bore you with it, not to mention I will cry and all that, so I’ll just get on with a few of the pictures we took.

You know I’m proud, you know we are ALWAYS here, so take this time to learn, take a leap of faith, and grow.

We just got back from dropping Ashley off at College so there won’t be a huge before and after this week however come back tomorrow and I’ll post pictures from that chapter of our lives!! Miss that girl already!
This post is about a small lamp we spruced up for her dorm. Remember me saying she is being very conservative when spending “her” money?? Well she had to buy a desk lamp but didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg to get a cute one. Those things are rather expensive!!
She opted to purchase a plain white one instead and have me fix it up according to her bedding. We chose a light gray to match her sheets and I used a Martha Stewart adhesive stencil my sister bought me!

And my child whom I spent 14 hours of labor for, leaving to her new Adventure!! By the way she was my proof reader so if there’s misspellings, blame her for fleeing the coop!

I wanted to show you what I’ll be working on this week even though I KNOW I won’t be done by Tuesday!
This little guys needs a lot of work and I mean sanding like crazy!!
He’s a rocking horse that I just LOVE but his owner wants him stained and kept as close to his original look as possible. Well that’s half true! His owner (that got in contact with me) was going to let me paint him. Her husband (co-owner) wanted it to be kept the same. Men! No vision I tell you. So I’ve been sanding him down daily, piece by piece. I haven’t gotten to his head yet and I’m sure that will be the hardest part but wish me well!
So this is still a work in progress and I have a very busy week ahead of me. Ashley goes off to college next week and we’ll have another going away party for her. Plus I’ve been working TONS lately and a little family drama never hurt anyone so lets throw that in the mix. Not immediate family just extended family drama! More on that later!
For now let me tell you about a small project I’m working that hopefully will leave you feeling like “YEAH, I can do that!!!”. So here it is!
My friend just bought a house and I’ve been looking for something to give her as a house warming gift. I’ve been thinking of a basket of STUFF that she’ll need. That is always a cool idea. Anyway the other day we were back to school shopping when I saw this bin of clearance stuff that I immediately ran to. I found this little sign for 70 cents that had a really great shape and I knew it could go on my “Basket O’ Awesome Stuff!”!
Here is the sign:
Nice Right!! L O V E but I wanted it to be chalkboard, so I painted the swirly design white to make it POP! (I only sprayed around the edges, that’s why you can see part of the riesling coming through!)
Now time for the chalk board paint!
And just for visualization, I half sanded this sign. Now I didn’t go to town with the sander, I actually just tapped it with my sander and the white came right on through!
And this is the final product! I started writing something else then erased. That’s what’s under the “Happy Friday”.

WARNING!!! This is not for the faint of heart!
I have to warn you that I tend to get a little out of hand when the wheels start turning and I’m on a mission. ALSO, when I spend nearly nothing on something someone almost threw away!!
OK…Monologue over. Here is what I came up with:
This is supposed to be my “whimsical tree”. Although it may not look too much like it. I knew I wanted a long vine like tree and I wanted it to look whimsical but I couldn’t get the image I wanted so I googled one and this popped up. Well not this exactly, but similar to it. I carried this look and feel to the slats. See Below:
You can barely see them from the photo but I drew white swirls all over the back and front of each slat. No rhyme or reason really, just swirls all over the place.
Bottom line is I had a REALLY fun time drawing and coloring and outlining this little “work of art”. I think at the end of the day if it makes you smile, it was worth it.
Not to mention this was an eye sore before! I like the end result and I’m smiling! Are you?

I have a great respect for people who know how to do lots with very little. Partly because I’m one of them (wink wink) but mostly because I love to see where someone’s imagination will take them!
That’s why I love it when someone sees something I’ve picked up and I can see the look of “WHY???” in their expression.
Case in point, this little book shelf:
Ugly right?!?! Well maybe too ugly for $4.00 but not $0.50!!
I’ve started to work on it since I had so many ideas floating around but I think I’ve finally decided what I’m going to do with it.
This was also one of my “Wonderful” finds this weekend. So excited to finish it this weekend!

If you missed Thursday’s post, I showed you the before photo of this table that my friend Massy brought over to my house and left on my porch for me. It was an AMAZING gift to get from such a sweet friend and it cracks me up that she knows me so well to know what TRULY makes me happy.
Keeping the fact that it was free in mind, I decided to look for a color I already had and used it so that I wouldn’t have to spend a dime on it. This table is truly …priceless!
Before I go any further I have to tell you what I found this weekend and it was NOT GOOD! Remember I told you I found some awesome deals this weekend (more on that later) ?? Well I had to make room for it so I hired Brianna (youngest daughter) to help me clean out my sun room. This is where I store all my crap and the reason for my husband’s craziness! I had this one area that really needed help and as I made my way through it, guess what came running out of there!?!?!?!?!? UGH a rat!!! AAAAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAAhAhAhA
He was a little one with deathly fangs and huge claws. He was running on one of the rafters and I screamed to the heavens to save me and my furniture!!! And to Brianna…although I don’t quite know why. Then to KUNU cat to come kill it but he was sunbathing and not to be bothered.
Anyway he ran away and now I must call an exterminator to make sure there aren’t any unnamed pets living outside(or in) my house. Isn’t this embarrassing…I mean I feel like the teacher just told me I have lice..and with all girls growing up, boy I got them too alright!
So disgusting and yucky!!
Now to totally change subjects yet again, here are the rest of my before and after photos. I just had to get that off my chest first though!
