Tossed And Turned Tuesday- My Fair Lady

After yesterday’s yuckiness, I think we all need to be left with something better to look at wouldn’t you say?!

And, YES, I did it! I finished the dresser….WOO HOO. The pink paint on this gal is called, “My Fair Lady”.  LOVE!

This will go in my cousin’s little girls room. She had a princess room and her only request was that she get crystal knobs. I found some that I liked that were shaped in a flower and the two on the top were different but I liked that the crystals were smaller and I had the bright idea that I could paint the metal around them lavender as well. Thought it would look cute anyway!

One thing you need to always remember when looking at “used” furniture is to really pay attention to details. Like this for instance. I see why she sold it for $5. Of course I still think she was out of her mind for giving it to me for that low but the top was cracked and they used globs of glue to hold it together. I thought it was just stained and didn’t pay that much attention to it. I just pried that glue gunk off, added wood filler, sanded and then painted it. Here’s the before and after of the top!

Yep, a little elbow grease never hurt anyone Smile

Again, here’s the before shot!!

Hope you liked it and I hope Giuliana REALLY likes it!! Cant wait to see it in her new Big Girl Room!!

Happy Tuesday!

When Before Equals UGLY and After Equals UGLY

Yeah, I’m not so proud of this piece but it had to be done and I was the one that had to do it.

See the back story to this piece is my Grandma has a best friend who lives down her street. This lady is a really sweet woman whom visits my grandma all the time. When she found out I redid furniture she asked if I could do something for her. I ended up redoing an end table she had that really came out nice! No before and after shots, sorry! Anyhow, it turns out she LOVED the table so much, she wanted me to redo yet another piece that is near and dear to her heart.

This little guy here:

I know what you’re thinking. How the heck is this near and dear to anyone’s heart. Yuk! I know I nearly gagged myself.

It’s about a foot tall and particle board and practically deteriorates in your hands.  Loooonnnggg sigh. The left side of the picture you can see a piece that came apart in transition. It bit the dust before I even touched it.  This left me thinking “what the hell am I going to do with this"???

I ended up using a butt load of wood filler just to give me something to paint and to hold those little particles of wood that felt like sand in my hands, together.

After sending word through my aunt that there wasn’t really anything to be done, she said that she only cared for it to be painted and possibly a stencil put on it. So that’s what I did and called it a day.

Here it is in all it’s glory!

I know, I know… big whoop, right ? Ha, even my stencil wasn’t cooperating. And do you see the crack in the right side? That happened after the filler and paint!! I don’t anticipate it to stay around too long but at least it’s final days will look a heck of a lot better than before.  Smile

So again, my question about the before and after going from ugly to not so much better…well what I do is make something pretty so that I can sleep at night!

Exhibit A:

Some random Home D├ęcor that needs lots of help. Let  me describe it in case you can’t tell from the picture. It is really heavy brass with glass sides and it has a ball of dead flowers glued to the center of it. Oh and let’s not forget the nice ribbon to really set it off. I found it for $4 at a thrift store.

Woo Woo, nice huh! Can’t you see that hanging around in your home?

…What about now?

I painted it a Periwinkle blue and added a candle. I may end up putting this on my front porch but I’m not sure yet. I may have to do something different with the candle or else I’ll have a puddle of wax with this Texas heat!

This was the only picture I took that came out half way decent. You can see the Slip-n-Slide out in the yard. We all got out there and had fun today with the In-laws!! And in case you’re wondering it was 107 degrees in Dallas today. So needless to say I did a lot of painting INSIDE!

Don’t forget to stop by Tomorrow for a MUCH BETTER REDO…I promise!

See you then,

Thrown Away Thursday–Dresser for a Princess

I’m crossing my fingers that I’m back on schedule but who can be sure these days! Let’s just consider ourselves lucky this week – haha!

You’ve met her before, she is sweet and dainty and super, super cheap!

Now I just have to dress her up to go in Princess Giuliana’s room.

Next line of business…sand…sand…sand! This gal has got lots of wear and tear but nothing I can’t handle.

Wish me luck and happy blogging!

Random Sunday Post To Get The Week Started :)

Hope everyone is having a great summer! Wish I could say I’ve been getting LOTS done but I haven’t. Nope, too much work going on which believe me is a good thing. Just doesn’t leave time for fun stuff like painting. boo.

Oh well, I’m grateful for overtime with school starting soon.

Today I went out to my sunroom- slash- junk area, and remembered this little table I picked up the other day at a yard sale.  Don’t know what hit me but I knew what needed to be done to it and couldn’t help myself. Before I could turn around, I had the table in my hand and headed in the house with a paint brush and a random blue paint I had.

Remember this guy:

Well here’s what it looks like today!

And I even included pics of the process…I know…sometimes I just get on a roll don’t I?!

By the way, this is the cheap and hard way to get this done. If you’re lucky enough to have a Circuit Machine or a nice stencil from a Hobby store, then by all means go that route. Ha, this process was long and I had paint all over my hands ~

This is my home made stencil made from cardstock. And I didn’t start at the side of the table either. I made a cross point using a tape measure and chalk to find the center of the table.  Once I had that I started in the center and made my way out. I knew if I didn’t my design would end up looking off center.

And the finished project:

Well that’s my Sunday small table transformation. It’s cute and ready to sell.

Hope you have a great week! I’ll be at work at 6AM tomorrow getting ready for the downpour of stress. My coworker Amy is out at the beach for a week so I get all the “Amy” questions in her absence.

Think of me and wish me good vibes so I don’t hurt anyone!!

Thank you,

Tossed and Turned Tuesday–Scrape up your Scraps!

I’m just gonna be honest with you. I work, I’m a mom, I’m tired and I complain a lot but all in all, I’m very, very lucky!  Hello, melodramatic! That being said, I will guarantee you that my posts are “what you see is what you get”. So most of the time, they are far from the finished product and nowhere near all the other great furniture you see out in the blog world, but the reality is, I’ll show you what I got, when I got it! (And I’m no pro but I’m pretty good)

Also, If you follow me, you know I don’t pay high dollar for any of my furniture. In fact the highest I go is usually the ten dollar range and if I paid – twenty – wow you better believe I have plans for it!!

So for all of you frugal friends out there, let me show you my version of scrapbooking!

Yes these are fabric scraps my friends! Different twist using fabric huh!

Tons of pictures to follow:

Again, painting not complete, but you get the idea Winking smile

Inside material!

I think it looks pretty darn good myself and I totally love my little fat fabric owls!

Oh and before I forget the inspiration for this came when my cousin Norah asked me what size the shelf was for her little girls room. I totally pictured it at that moment in a child’s room because of the height and knew originally I was going to paint everything on but then I ran across my fabric and…you get the idea.

So thanks Norah for getting that ball rolling!

Thanks again for stopping by! I appreciate your time and YOU!!!

Thrown Away Thursday- Little Bookshelf needs help!

Ok, come on now…you forgot it was Thursday too, right?! It totally felt like a Monday to me that’s for sure.

I showed you my loot from Yard Sale shopping on Saturday but forgot to show you this little book shelf. It fits inside my trunk if that is any idea of how small it is. That’s why I forgot.

photo (5)

I can’t wait to start! I even got it propped up ready to go!

Sometimes when you’re like me, you have all these ideas running around in your mind of all the possibilities, then you have life and other crap that gets in the way and there my little book shelf sits..waiting..just waiting for some love.

I’m hoping that I can work it in after work and on the “semi” weekend I’ll be having. I think it’ll definitely be refreshing to accomplish one of my wee projects! You know like a cup of coffee that refreshes the soul…or is that just me? Anyway, I’ve got BIG plans for this little shelf!

Come back and see what I’ve got floating around in my head for it!!  WOOOO HOOOO I’m so excited about this!

Oh and just in case you’re off schedule like me… Tomorrow is Friday Smile

Garage Sale Loot

I wanted to share with you some of the loot I found on Saturday. I realize I need to kick it into high gear with a child starting college and all the extra expenses that come along with that ,so I got up early this weekend and hit the neighborhood!!

These are some of the things I found and the prices for each!

First up is this chest(??). I really don’t know what it is but it is perfect and I love it!! It’s really wide and sturdy with four drawers.  It was marked down from $75, to $45, then $25—amazing!

Second and don’t hate me when you see the price on this piece. I’d definitely be jealous if I were you. I found this for $5!! No lie. Of course I didn’t question it or check it out completely but at face value, I’d say I got a GREAT deal!

This next small table doesn’t seem like that big of a deal after that awesome five dollar chest now does it? However, it is still a cute table. And by the way, I got it before I found the dresser.

I just realized that there was another piece I forgot to get a photo of that is in my trunk. It is a small book shelf for ten dollars. I’ll have to include that next time ;0

Last and certainly not least. Is this awesome bag of ribbons. Each spool was ten cents!! There are all sorts of colors and sizes…it was a true treasure hunt!! My girls laughed at me because they said it was like I was digging for gold but you know what, 21 spools of ribbon for 10 cents a pop was well worth the humiliation!! I even worked up a sweat digging around! I don’t play when it comes to good deals~

Again, I’m going to try to start up this Curbside CREATING again so come back often for great furniture transformations, crazy stories and anything else I can offer!!

Have a great  week!
