Thrown Away Thursday- Bottomless Chair

I was going to do another set of tables for you guys but I thought I'd give you a break since you know I have a thing for my small tables! In fact, I dreamt last night that I picked up a couple of awesome tables at a garage sale. I was so mad when I woke up! Sad I know.

*On a side note, have you ever seen Nightmare on Elm Street where the girl can grab something from her dream and bring it out with her into real life. Well I've actually tried that in my garage sale dreams (even sadder!!.. I Know!!)

I found this little chair at a thrift store for a few dollars and thought, what the hell, I can do something with the missing bottom, Right??? I guess we'll have to see now won't we.
We'll see if I have mad weaving skills. See you later, Rita :)

Tossed And Turned Tuesday- Presenting THE GIRLS!!

If you're like me and you live in a house full of women (including a girl puppy) you know that when we get in a mood, there is no trifling with us. Once our mind is set, watch out. You will not change our minds. We will not take less than what we're worth. We will not settle. When it came to these tables, the same rules applied. The day I realized how they needed to look I drew them up on a scratch note pad. I found a piece of fabric print online that looked retro enough as a go by and had a friend of mine adjust it to look exactly like I envisioned the stenciled top. But when I didn't have the brown paint I needed, I tried to go for a lighter shade of brown to see if it worked. Did these girls approve?? HECK NO. I could never get a second coat on!! I felt like I was painting with water colors! The paint would not stick. I knew better than to keep trying. Luckily I had a couple extra cans of spray paint from a previous project...and the girls finally approved. That's how I turned this:

Into this:

If you could have seen the drama I spent with them, you'd completely understand.

They'll be at Junkadoodle on Saturday if you want to see them up close.

See you Thursday,

Rita

Thrown Away Thursday ~ Side Tables~

I know these photos stink but I'm already working on these two lovely's so these before photos are all I have!(excuses, excuses)

I have to say it took these tables a while to talk to me and tell me how they needed to be transformed. You see all my furniture speak to me and no I'm not crazy! I don't think!

The lady at the garage sale I bought them from looked pretty eager to sell these to me. It was nearing the end of the day and she sold them to me for $10 for the set. She even went down on the price before I asked how much they were. Then she kept trying to sell me on their beautiful features as if she had to. I mean look at them!

So ten dollars later and lots of time in my sun room, I'm tackling them this weekend and will have them for sale at Junkadoodle next Saturday.

Come back Tuesday and see what they look like when I'm done. Oh and just so you know I'm having a tough time with them already so I'm crossing my fingers for Tuesday. These ladies are stubborn!!

Tossed And Turned Tuesday- Yellow Table

WARNING: This table went a little bright so squinting may be needed

I hope I don't get hate mail for this one. I went out on a limb and tried to recreate something I've seen done before and since I'm not afraid to try something new...well here is the result~

I don't think anyone will miss this table~

Here's how I did it. Take your less than happy table. This one could have been stained all over however there were too many bumps and bruises to rescue it all so I painted it and left some of the real wood showing through.

Next I took a piece of chalk and drew my border. Oh I sanded it first and prepped it for painting.

Then I took out my Dremel tool and traced my chalk line.

Last, I painted it then stained the middle with Dark Walnut stain to really make it pop! I think I succeeded with the popping, wouldn't you say

>Again, thanks for coming back to see this table after it's face lift.

Oh and want to tell you all that I'll be at Junkadoodle on April 2nd in Dallas if you're in the area. I'd love to see or meet you!!

Thrown Away Thursday ~ The lost table~

It's hard to see how this cute table could get lost in a crowd but I actually bought it at the same HUGE garage sale with over 100 vendors that I found the blue nightstand . It wasn't until I was leaving that I saw it amongst the pile of stuff. I debated getting it since I already had my hands full and was on my way out the door but the price tag and my love of furniture drew me to pay the man for it. It was only $5 and I had Brianna with me, so she helped take it to the car.

What's in store for this table? You can probably tell from the title. I don't want it to get lost in the crowd again so I'll have to change that. See you Tuesday!

Groovy 70's Shirt.

I'm SO EXCITED to show you this little arts and crafts project I did last night. But first let me tell you how it began.

A couple of weeks ago, my family gathered to go through old clothes belonging to my grandpa. During the cleaning of closets, I stumbled upon this shirt belonging to my Grandma. While everyone else pawed through what they were keeping of my grandpa's, I just asked if I could take this shirt. You may think that's strange but if you knew me, you'd totally get it! So they said yes and I did the arm thrust thing because I totally got the most awesome print shirt in the world!! I mean look at this print!

Although I didn't quite now what I'd use it for yet, here enters this little tiny footstool from Goodwill for $1.

Ugly right??

Can you believe this awful staple job??

It took me about 30 minutes total including hot gluing to make this footstool go from fearful to FABULOUS or gross to GROOVYYYY or ...well you get the idea!
Here it is all cleaned up. I had Brianna hold the measuring tape so you can see how tall it is. I have no idea what this would be used for but it sure is cool to look at. Oh, and staples were covered with the inside seam of the blouse where the buttons go.

I still have scraps so you may see more of this pattern until it's all gone!
Don't forget to see another retro transformation tomorrow on Tossed and Turned Tuesday~

Tossed and Turned Tuesday- Vintage Nightstand

As you can see, I love to use blue. All shades of blue. When I found this nightstand a garage sale last week I think I already knew it would be one of my "oops" paint blue hues.

Don't forget the StellaDallas paper I love!!

Remember how I said I couldn't take my eyes off of it...yeah...still can't.

For those of you who didn't see it on Thursday, here it is before:

Thanks for stopping by. Oh and for those of you who read yesterday's post on Sammy's TV stand. He loves it.

For Sammy!! My Precious of little faith...

So...I've talked about Sammy (my husband) before and how different we are when it comes to all things decor. I like light. He likes dark. I like shabby chic. He likes Pottery Barn deep browns. I like bright happy colors...and he doesn't mind them as long as they aren't for him. So needless to say, he doesn't see the beauty in treasures as I do.

One thing I've made before that he really liked is the TV stand I made for Angie. He's been needing a new one for his new TV so I told him I'd be on the look out. A couple of weeks ago this old TV cabinet came up on craigslist for $25.00. But after seeing how much repair the inside would need she sold it to me for $20.00.

Sammy wasn't SO MUCH sold on the idea of this being his new TV stand because of the height. In fact as I'm typing this, he's installing all his "electronics" in it now (I'm still crossing my fingers).

Where was I? Oh, so we measured all of his "stuff" that would go in this cabinet, built a shelf and made repairs to the bottom.

Next it was off to be PRIMED~

Although, he had his doubts and I kept telling him, "it looks so great in my head", he was pleased with the outcome. NOT TOO BRIGHT AT ALL. That was the one thing he was hoping for and I just wanted some pop of light color amongs all the dark, dark surroundings. I think we found a happy medium.
Here it is after in all HIS gray (antiqued) beauty!!

So babe this one's for you~
I love you,
Rita

Thrown Away Thursday ~ Lovely Nightstand ~

Brianna and I went to this awesome garage sale last Saturday and found this lovely gem for $10.00.
There were over 100 booths full of so much stuff but she was the first thing I laid eyes on and haven't taken them off since. I think she's too lovely not to have a name so I'll need help coming up with one.

Thanks and come back to see her Tuesday!

Have a good week,
Rita

Tossed And Turned Tuesday-Headboard and Contest!

And the Oscar(I mean gift card of your choice) goes to....Donna!!

You were randomly selected through Random Number Generator to win your gift card.
And since I LOVED Katie's adjective "Craptastic" so much, you get a small gift as well.

So ladies if you will email me your addresses, I'll get your gift in the mail ASAP. ( rdmireles@gmail.com )

Now for the reveal:
Yes, I chose an oops paint - hint of green for the headboard and outlined it in white! We've had cloudy days here in Irving so I tried to pick the photo closest to it's true color.

Again, BEFORE brown and plain:

AFTER Green and Girlie:

I hope you all like it and I didn't disappoint. I started painting it pink and white but slept on it and it just didn't feel quite right. So this green transformation was made yesterday. If it could speak I think it would say "Thank You".

Thanks again for your comments and being a part of my first contest!

Hope you have a great day!
Rita
