For Cindy...

It started with this Craigslist ad:

...and my friend named Cindy. She needed a red table to put by her chair in her room and it needed to be red, have drawers for storage and look a little distressed. Did I mention she's my best friend and I love her with all my heart...even though I call her Miranda Priestly. If you've seen The Devil Wears Prada, picture the "drop everything and do it now" tone and look,

and add it to a lady with a big 'Ol Amarillo heart!! Wow that's a lot to imagine but it sums her up.

Her mom is the 'Best Jam and Buscuit Maker in Amarillo' if that tells you anything about her upbringing (Hi Nana!) so you know she is special.

ANYWHO!

Where was I...oh yeah...she needed a table/cabinet of some sort so I was on the prowl.

I searched craigslist one day and found this CHEEP, sorry I meant Cheap table. A whole two dollars. I took a picture of the ad so you would believe me when I said two bucks.

Of course I bought it!! Here it is in it's rare form:

Now after two cans of Valspar Red paint. I bought three but two did just fine. I spray painted it all over. I normally would have done regular paint but it didn't work well on this piece nor give it the depth that the spray paint gave it.

See what I mean. Look at these drawers!!

And here it is after the coats of spray paint, faux glaze that I tinted black and new black handles to match!

Let's see if it fits the bill. She said she loved it but it still has to get her husband Rod's approval. Then I'll be satisfied.

Thrown Away Thursday- TV Trays

I picked up these old TV Trays at a garage sale last week for $1 each. My intention was to post the before picture today and then work on them over this weekend...however...I couldn't help myself. I transformed them the same day I got them.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait until Tossed and Turned Tuesday to see the after shots!

Tossed and Turned Tuesday- Green Chair Reveal

Could it be??? Is it true?? Is this little chair now blue?



This was the little green chair that I fell in love with last week. He almost made the bulk trash pick up that week but I saved him. Here he is before:

Now let's see what was wrong with him:

1.) Missing a piece of wood over leg/ nicks and scratches

2.) Cracked wood down the center needed piece of duct tape to keep from pinching.

3.) Peep hole in two places in the chair. Would be fine if this was a door but it's not.

Final Product, after wood filling, sanding, and painting.

Since the "before" chair had the duct tape for YEARS I thought it only added character to the chair so I painted a couple of white stripes in memory of the "tape".

Hope you like it as much as I do. Oh and Brianna already called dibs on this chair. It's going in her room!

Thrown Away Thursday - Little Green Chair That Could

This chair was given to me by a coworker. He said he was getting rid of some furniture and this chair was on the list. He didn't remember how old it was exactly except that it used to belong to his wife and was a child's desk at one point.


I (who would have thought) fell in LOVE with it! I love it, love it! I especially love the duct tape that runs down the middle of it. He said there's a small crack that would pinch his daughter when she was little so they put the duct tape to prevent that. (Isn't that so cute!)

I just got this chair on Sunday a long with the big desk that currently resides in my Explorer. I couldn't wait to fix it up!

Oh by the way, I made my first Etsy sale yesterday. Yay!

Tossed And Turned Tuesday- Mia's Pink Frame!

With frames all over the place, I had to do one for myself, and it was easy~



Remember this ugly frame from last week? White (well almost) with yucky flowers hot glued to it? Yeah, it's been staring at me for a while now and I didn't quite know how it would work as a "frame" per se, however with all the tutorials about using frames as hair bow holders all over blog land, man I knew that's what was meant for this guy!


I called my sister-in-law to find out what little Miss Mia had her new room decorated in and she said it was in her favorite colors: pink and purple. So I'm hoping it will hang perfectly on her wall. Especially when she sees how her bows will go on it. I even bought her a couple for it.




So moral of today's story:

White frame with yuck flowers glued on: Not so much!

Pretty in Pink frame, with a "less is more" approach: Darling~

Thrown Away Thursday- So NOT Shabby Chic!

This frame may look Shabby Chic-ish but trust me ...IT AIN'T.
I've had this for a while and it's time to get it done. With all the latest frame transformations out there, this one has to get it's day in the spotlight.

Tossed and Turned Tuesday- Their Before, My After

What a difference a day makes!



I originally had other plans for this table that I posted about last Thursday.
That is until I stopped by this AWESOME shop in Dallas called StellaDallas! If your in the Dallas area, you must stop by! I met Amber, the store owner and was very inspired by her and her shop. She has two other friends that run the shop and I love that they sing karaoke there too(sounds perfect doesn't it).

She had a great variety of great paper where found this neat floral print and new immediately that it was going on this table.

With a couple of coats of Apple Red sray paint and Mod Podge of course, this table gets a fun modern look!

Now this table is happy! Yay!!

I'll be adding this side table to my Etsy shop so make sure you check it out.

Thrown Away Thursday -"Their Before, My After"

I found this table at a yard sale for $1.00. The lady said she started to redo it but never got around to finishing. You can see where she started to paint some of it silver.
Don't get me wrong...I love silver but not on this...yuk!

It was hard to decide on a project to tackle this week. It was a toss up between this table and a frame that I've had my eye on for quite some time. Maybe I'll get to the frame next week.

Tossed and Turned Tuesday- Dana's Chair

Here she is.
Two weeks ago (yes, I took two weeks off), I showed you this chair my friend found at a church garage sale. It was old and worn to say the least and after she had it for a year in her garage, then I had it for about the same in mine...it was finally time for me to tackle it.

I've never done anything like this before and it was harder than heck. I've decided I need to go to an "upholstery" class because there were areas that I just could not understand. Needless to say, the seat was the only thing that got covered. I just didn't have it in me to tackle the back although I still like the way it looks without it.

After- modern, polished and fabulous!








Now, here's a simple tutorial of the added embellishment that was well needed since I left the back bare:


First lets take a closer look at the back. This is what it looks like even after extensive wood filling. There were plenty of nails all over the place. I didn't like the way it looked even though I appreciated the character so I decided to compromise.

I found the perfect embellishment for the back of this chair from Home Depot. I knew that it could provide some cover up without taking away too much from the chair.

Here's what I did with it.

1.) I spray painted it black to match the chair.

2.) Got out my Gorilla Glue and a heavy duty clamp.
3.) Put a bead of glue around the center of the entire piece.

4.) This glue will expand so if you stay close to the center you'll be in good shape and you won't have glue oozing over the sides. This just shows the left side with glue. Just use it sparingly throughout. It's awesome stuff!

5.) I personally like to eyeball my stuff but if you'd rather measure, just make sure it's as centered as possible. Here's me eyeballing!

6.) Clamp that baby down and let it set.

And now you have a beautiful back that adds it's own character to the chair without taking away from the original charm!
