Thrown Away Thursday- Dana's Chair

This chair belongs to my friend Dana. She found it at a garge sale for a couple of dollars. Truth is I have had this for about a year now and it's been on my "To Do" list, but I never get around to working on it. With Christmas break I'm making it my priority.
Catch is that "Tossed And Turned Tuesday" won't return until after the New Year so you'll have to wait until then to see it!

I'll be posting more Christmas decor pictures soon so be sure to look for those too!
See you soon-
Rita

Tossed and Turned Tuesday- Christmas Fun!

Christmas time!!

I'm breaking these down into parts because it'll get pretty lengthy.

First up- Pine Cone Centerpiece:

I took this .99 cent jar from Goodwill

and filled it with this .95 cent bag of pine cones

as well as one of these .99 cent Smith & Hawken glass rocks.

This was a very easy project for about $3.00.

Second, is my version of silver leafed NOEL letters:
I started by seeing these Noel letters everywhere that people made look like the one from Pottery Barn. I ABSOLUTELY loved them. I didn't want to totally take their idea so I decided on silver leafing mine. Since Silver leaf costs an arm and a leg. extra appendages I don't have, I decided to do my own thing (of course).

I apologize for not posting the tutorial but I can't find my pictures at the moment. Anyhow, here's what I did. Took the NOEL letters from Hobby Lobby @ $1.99 each. Found some old tissue paper. I had orange for some reason so I tore it to shreds, wadded it up and started decoupage it to the letters. When it dried, I spray painted the whole thing silver.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Third, and my personal favorite, only because I've always wanted to do this. Oh and my daughter thinks it's ugly by the way... is my ornament wreath.

I took the small wreath (.65 cents) and the angel wreath hanger (.95 cents).
Got out my hot glue gun (it has seen better days) and old ornaments that we aren't using this year.

Hot glued them all together (fun!!).

Last glued twine to cover the ugly gold wreath holder and viola!
More to come...
Merry Christmas,
Rita

Thrown Away Thursday- "JUNK"

Yes (as if to answer a question asked by my husband) technically this is junk. Well some of it anyway. Like the little silver plate that was 59 cents. BUT, some of them were really good finds from goodwill and I didn't spend much either.

I'm sure you can guess where I'm going with some of these items (ahem, mantle). You'll have to wait and see the rest on "Tossed and Turned " Tuesdays.

But to answer your question, yes, they were all purchased last weekend at the goodwill and a local thrift store. Oh, except the NOEL letters. Those came from Michaels. Here's a breakdown of what will be my Christmas Decor:

Tossed And Turned Tuesday- Brown (Blue) Case

You remember this old brown case? Well with Ellen's and Olivia's suggestions, It got a new coat of WHITE paint, some left over fabric and it is going to hold my files. It is actually too big to hold the files like a normal filing cabinet would but it holds all of my binders, Creative Planner, etc. just perfectly. It's not quite done yet as you can tell from the trimming but with sick kids around this place it's hard to get much done.

Oh yeah and the blue paint in the inside looked dead on to my fabric in the store but of course when it dries...well you get a different shade of blue.
Oh well, close enough!

Hope you enjoy and thanks for your suggestions!~

P.S.

See you Thursday :)

Thrown Away Thursday- Brown Case

To be honest with you I don't know what the heck this old case was used for or where I got it from. Must have been a garage sale but it I love the vintage look and how abnormally big it is. Surely there's a good purpose for it, right?

We'll have to find out. I'm not even sure what to do yet, but it'll come to me. Check back next Tuesday to see what I come up with.

Tossed And Turned Tuesday!! ~ Roarin' 20's

WELCOME TO TOSSED AND TURNED TUESDAYS!

Visit me on Tuesdays when I reveal my transformation of what was 'thrown out' from Thursday's post.

Ok, that being said... Here is the little three dollar guy. You can read about him here.

My sister has a friend with a black and white 20's bedroom. With that in mind, this is the transformation.

AND... for those of you who think black and white is boring...

oh wait...what's this inside the drawer???

Could it be??? A hint of blue???

Yeah, I figured he could use a pop of color~

Hope you liked it. See you Thursday!

posting here:

For Tony...

My father-in-law found this chest when he was moving. We don't know how old it is or what it was used for but he decided he was going to use it as his liquor cabinet. Just like old pieces I love, they seem to have secrets everywhere which makes the remake all the more fun!
This started out brown and worn and the look he was going for was black and masculine.
Here it is before:

1. The top is in two pieces and folds back at the top.
2. Inside has custom shelves with holes (??? interesting)
3. The right hand door has a lock and the left has a small latch that hooks onto the bottom of the shelf.

Here it is During:
1. shaved off and sanded the top.

2. This old paint would not come off and needed lots of hole filler and sanding :)
3. Here it is primed. I liked the color so I used it in the finished product.
Here it is After and in use:

Thrown Away Thursday- This screams 1920's to me!

WELCOME TO THE FIRST EVER...Thrown Away Thursday! I'm very excited to introduce you to new projects I'll be working on. These are items that have been thrown out, picked up at garage sales, thrift stores, whatever. Basically someone else threw it out and I picked it up.

This was a garage sale find for three dollars! I LOVE the round pull. It just says Roarin' 20's to me.

The inside is cracked and will need some attention but I wanted to point out that the layer of crap you see in here isn't rotted wood. VERY IMPORTANT! It's merely crap and dust and stuff.

The top has a little water damage but nothing elbow grease wont' get out.

I think she may be spoken for but if not I'll post it as "For Sale". You can click on my side bar
tags to see what's for sale. You can also click on the red button above, however, I can only post five items on it. (waa waaa waaa).

Ok, that's it for now. Stop by next Tuesday for "Tossed and Turned Tuesday". I love alliteration :)

News from the Curbside!

As of October 25, 2010 I am the sole owner and operator of "Curbside Creations". It's mine~
I'm excited to see where Curbside takes me. So far this hobby has brought happiness I didn't know I could find. I have a mixture of emotions and I just had to share.

Also you'll probably start to see a few changes around here. I want to start to post not just my before and after pictures but new items I pick up here and there before I recreate them. Other than that I don't know what extra stuff you'll find but you know that feeling when you lose extra pounds and you're like " I wanna dye my hair"...yeah I'm going through something like that!

Who knows the blue background might even change. I don't know yet but I guess we'll see.

Yay!

Rita :)

I forgot about this one!

I think this is the last item from the flea market that I needed to post about.

Here's the before:

And the after (at the flea market):
told you I was behind!

Have a great day!!
