...And Another Stool

Told you there were more stools in the works. This is one a friend of mine gave me to restore. It's amazing what a little paint and new fabric can do. My daughter Brianna acutally painted this one all by herself. I wonder if I have a little minnie me in the works... A mother can only hope :)

The Apple Table

This is kind of a funny story. I bought this desk at a garage sale for $5.00. It was painted white with an apple print contact paper on the top. When Sammy helped me get it off the car, he called it the Apple Table. So whenever I'd bring up the topic of the desk, he'd say "oh, you mean the Apple Table?".
Well I finally finished the desk. It has a classic brown look and the only thing I changed was the handle. I think it's perfect! A friend of mine bought it from me so the Apple Table will be leaving today.

I know these pictures are rather blurry but it's the best I could do before I got it ready for her to take home.

Good bye Apple Table. I had fun bringing you to life.

Stools, Stools...And More Stools (in the works!)

I love old small stools. They're easy to sand, paint, dry...and everyone can use one.
This little stool belonged to my mother-in-law. She's had it for over 20 years. My daughter thinks she used it to sample her paint on....Hmmmm.

Again, this is another project where I got ahead of myself and just assumed she'll like it but it atleast looks better!! Here's the Before:

And After:

I picked up my next stool at a flea market and paid about $5. My youngest daughter liked it for her room so I "retro"-ed it up for her style with some Ikea fabric(also garage sale find) and powder blue paint. She loves it!

I've had a WEEKEND OFF in more than 2mths! Take a look at the first thing I did. I hate, hate, hate this white fireplace. So blah! So this weekend I was home alone with my paint, glaze, and extra money from working so much.
I hit a couple of garage sales and found some great vintage decor. Then I started painting and didn't stop until I had a fireplace I LOVE to look at. Ahhhh...accomplishment feels so great!

Depeche Mode Table

Rita has been all caught up in a little something we call work...working 50 and sometimes 60 plus hours. But nonetheless I managed to find a few minutes to put together yet another IKEA table. This is the album cover of Depeche Mode. Hope you like!

Little Brown Stool

Found this little jewel on the side of the road a few weeks ago and with work being busy lately, I haven't had time to work on it. This took a long process for such a small project. Sanding here, painting get the idea. End result is a nice brown stool with paisley brown fabric.

I love brown!

Mia Loves her Chalkboard Table!

As is my precious niece Mia and her new chalkboard table!!

Mine! Mine! Mine!

I found this old piece at a flea market and bought it for $5.00. My husband thought I was nuts but do you blame me? I Love, Love, Love this thing. I had to do a lot of sanding to get layers of peeling crud off of it but it paid off. Under all that stuff was a solid wood piece.

I had some left over stain but the color was too light. I added black paint into the mix and got exactly what I wanted. I love old DARK wood furniture. Anyway my husband loved it too(just like I knew he would) and decided to put it in the living room.

This one is all mine... I mean HIS!

Mia's Table

Here it is...the wonderful hexagon table that I was dying to do something with!! If you read a couple posts ago my mother-in-law moved and didn't have a use for this table that was given to her. I wasn't quite sure what I would do with it if I got my hands on it, but that quickly changed when I saw my (almost) two year old niece checking it out. So I decided...It will be for Mia!! I painted it pink and the top with chalkboard paint, and now she has a new chalkboard table!! I painted a terra cotta pot pink to go in the middle to hold her chalk.
She'll get it tomorrow when the weather is better and I'll post pictures of her playing with it. I just might get more comments on her than my table. She is a cutie!!

Hexagon Table

Here's a little story for you. My mother-in-law moved two weeks ago and we went over to help. While helping pack up I ran accross so many wonderful little pieces of furniture that I would love to get my hands on. One of which was this little table. I loved it becuase if its shape and especially the hole in the middle. I mean, what the heck is that about? I love it even though no one knew what purpose it served before landing on my In-laws front porch for the past year. So I asked her if I could have it and she was pleased to give it away.
This is a brave step for me because I'm going to post the before photo here and since I'm still working on it, I'll post the after photo when I'm done. The reason for the "brave" comment is because I have an idea for it but don't quite know how it will look when I'm done, or if it'll even work for that matter. So for now, here is the before photo and hopefully (crossing fingers) I can get the after photo soon and it comes out the way I envision it.

By the way the only thing I did when I took the photo, was sand the top. It pretty much looked that way when I got it.

I've been featured on Today's Creative Blog!

Yay...I'm really excited that my blog is being noticed. At the end of the day, these projects help keep me sane. So it's nice to see that I can share the beauty I see in these items for what they really are and not junk as some people do.

I appreciate the warm responses and wonderful comments. Thanks and look for some more treasures very soon!

So for the past week it's been raining. I tried to paint a table the other day and it melted off. I hear we're in for more rain all week through the weekend.
ugh... love the rain but this is ridiculous~
I haven't gotten on thing done (twriling my thumbs).

Hopefully I can tackle one project and post soon. To be continued...

Little Orange Box!

What do you get when you have a small wooden box, a Dremel too, left over paint and old blank cards??? Well for Ashley, it's a cute little pen, post-it, and just about whatever - holder. I carved these little flowers and painted it with left over orange and brown paint I had. Since I didn't want to paint the inside, I found some old blank cards and decopaged the inside with them. Hope you like!

Life according to Grandparents

I read this on a blog I love (A CUP OF JO)and couldn't stop thinking about it.

According to my grandmother: "Have your own life. Pursue your dreams and let your husband do the same. Being content with yourself makes you a better wife."

According to my grandfather: "Any disagreement can be settled with two words: 'Yes, dear.' "

-- Jessica, Heartthrobs and Villains. (Her grandparents recently celebrated their 60h anniversary.)

I'm working on them as I get a chance but my schedule's been kinda hectic these days.

Oh and I'll be at a flea market on OCTOBER 10th at a place called "Junkadoodle" in Dallas on Lovers Lane. I'll have some of my creations there so stop by and see me!

Angie's TV Stand

This was a really cool project to do. I bought this TV stand at a garage sale the other day and showed some friends of mine since it was a really good solid piece(very heavy!).
A friend (and co-worker)Angie, found a use for it at her new home so I custom painted it to fit her and her boyfriend's style.
She asked for it to be black and distressed, but no crackle finish! Her boyfriend likes red so I added some red touches to show through the distressed areas. This is the final result. She hasn't even seen it yet so I'm crossing my fingers that it is what she wants!

Patio Table

thought I'd spruce up the small table that sits on the deck. I'd painted it black at first but with the passing seasons, it's looking pretty dreary. I though it needed to look a llittle more cheerful so I created a color (mixed about four) to come up with something that would match some pillows I had.
I love the way it looks for the season.

Vintage with a Modern Twist~

Love these little chairs! I bought them at a garage sale and the man said they belonged to his grandmother and were at least as old as he was, which was atleast 50ish. I liked them in red however I really thought they'd look best in blue. My dilema: I couldn't decide to make them look new or keep the vintage worn out look so I decided on BOTH! After painting them blue I sanded them down so some red would show through.

This lovely pair is for sale! Let me know if they belong in your home.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Although it wasn't my type of movie, Ashley wanted me to watch Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium with her, so we did. There was a quote I was perticularly fond of that when spoken by Dustin Hoffman and all his magical spleandor, I liked enough to share with you. My recomendation for the movie however, only see it if your child makes you. Unless you like seeing Rain Man with wild hair and eyebrows, colorful scenes, and lots of magic. It was actually a cute movie.

Have a good Week!

"When King Lear dies in Act V, do you know what Shakespeare has written? He's written "He dies." That's all, nothing more. No fanfare, no metaphor, no brilliant final words. The culmination of the most influential work of dramatic literature is "He dies." It takes Shakespeare, a genius, to come up with "He dies." And yet every time I read those two words, I find myself overwhelmed with dysphoria. And I know it's only natural to be sad, but not because of the words "He dies." but because of the life we saw prior to the words.I've lived all five of my acts, and I am not asking you to be happy that I must go. I'm only asking that you turn the page, continue reading... and let the next story begin."

One Red Martian

You've seen my post on Tony's Tables from Ikea...well this is the same concept. I took an Ikea table and created a print of a local band called "One Red Martian". There isn't a before photo since this was a NEW project.
So for those of you paying attention...what do you get when take a plain Ikea table and an album cover of your favorite band? A FREAKIN' AWESOME TABLE...that's what!
